"Funny high school story"

Friday night/Saturday morning, whatever I was too drunk to care, so were all my friends. Anyway...

There's probably half of the whole group having a good time at the town beach when some others drop by. We notice someone else (her name withheld) straggling behind everyone and watch her slowly make her way towards us. She gets closer and closer and finally she gets close enough to say hi to everyone when I happen to notice she's wearing only one shoe.

"Hey (name still being withheld)!" I said, "you've lost one shoe!" She looks down, looks back up, smiles really wide and sends us all into fits of laughter with her reply: "No, dave, I found one!"

I ran into the homepage of a former boss of mine, from when I was doing my co-op placement for college. She was a good boss, always trying to impart advice and wisdom to me in a subtle way. Ways I never did see until I reflected upon it. Anyway, here's what I saw on her Page:
Life is wonderful. Some words to live by:

Along with the sunday comics, I also enjoy reading a humour article written by Dave Barry and published every Sunday. [Link] I really wish I could find one such article, it had a line that still makes my sides hurt from laughter.
From the Miami Herald's website: "He won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1988. Barry writes about various major issues relating to the international economy, the future of democracy, the social infrastructure and exploding toilets." (Thanks to the Herald for not suing me)

"Community aspiration."

I've been online for a long time. Way longer than any of you people reading this. I was a 12 yr old dialing out to Detroit from Big Trout Lake onto a BBS with "Internet mail" and "Internet domain" options. Anyway.. I've watch a bunch of things go down since then, but one thing I want to point out is the concept of "community." Having lived in Big Trout Lake and watching them seceed from NAN and go into IFNA I paid a lot of attention to the meaning of community wherever I was and whatever I was doing. I watched webpages get bigger and more numerous, Microsoft hijack the computing world, Linux users retaliate, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) grow into a giant melting pot, Instant Messaging boom into an equal state to IRC, blogging revolutionize the way we get our news and the whole Internet Financial BOOM and BUST... But all these things had one common binding holding them all together: the feeling of community among their respective users.

Now, I'm not going into the whole "meaning of community" here, but I'd like to state that I'd like one to start here. It's an aspiration, I guess. Drop me an email if you have any thoughts.

[Link] it's a site that allows you to draw a picture on the page, press a "Save" button and it's saved into the site and displayed along with another 149 paintings on the same page and slides to the back until it's pushed off it and archived along with several thousand others.

I love that site because whenever I'm in a sucky mood, I go there and click "reload" a dozen times. All better.

We noticed that, despite any of his other shortcomings, he was excellent at hearing the sound of a coin being dropped onto the concrete.

Well, I'm still working on this little page... I've set up memberships for my tag board and for my siglets, so all I've got to do is add them to my page. This blogging stuff is kinda hard to set up and I'm not so sure where my posts will end up. It mentioned something about a template and I chose that, but I think something (a lot of things, actually) went over my head... Hmm? Now all I gotta do is figure out how to do stuff with it.
